We were all sitting poolside enjoying a Sunday afternoon when my daughter asked me for a "drank" — something tropical. She seemed comfortable, so how could I say no? Keeping the kids happy can be a chore at times, but if you do it right they really do appreciate the extra effort. I went inside with the intention of making some version of watermelon lemonade that I could disguise as a tropical drink, but what I came back with is a great way to kick up any backyard BBQ or pool party.

The first step was to puree about an eighth of a watermelon in a blender. I looked for some ice to add, but what I found instead was some frozen pineapple and mango chunks from Trader Joe's. These were perfect. After throwing in about a cup and a half of each frozen fruit into the blender, I hit the puree button again. Lastly, I added the juice of three lemons and some sugar to taste. Puree one last time to make sure everything is smooth. Pour into a glass and garnish with a wedge of watermelon — or whatever you've got. Go make some kids happy.
